据台湾媒体3月16日晚报道，16日晚上约9点左右，有多架解放军战机出现在台湾西南方海上空域进行夜航训练，台湾空军台南基地IDF战机与嘉义基地F-16战机分批紧急起飞进行拦截。

台湾防务部门对此回应称，本部门侦察到解放军空警500、歼11等型机，于16日晚间19时许于台湾西南方海域执行夜间飞行训练，期间曾接近“台湾海峡中线”，台军空中侦巡战机“适切应对”，实施“广播驱离”后，解放军战机飞离。这是解放军第一次夜间做远海长训科目。
