SINGAPORE — One of the five locally transmitted cases of Covid-19 recorded in Singapore on Saturday (April 24) was a 45-year-old man who had received both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in its latest update.
He was one of 23 new cases recorded, 18 of which were imported.
The Singapore permanent resident (PR), a senior executive at a shipping company, received the first dose of the vaccine on Feb 26 and the second on March 19.
His parents arrived from India on April 15.
His father tested positive for Covid-19 for his on-arrival swab and was admitted to a hospital.
His mother was placed on quarantine from April 16 to 30 at a government quarantine facility as she had been identified as a close contact of two other reported cases of the coronavirus on a flight.
She tested negative for Covid-19 on April 15 for her on-arrival test and again two days later during quarantine.
While their son, the 45-year-old man, had not travelled to India with his parents, he had requested to take care of his mother at the quarantine facility, and moved into the same room as her on April 16.
On April 23, he developed a blocked nose and reported his symptom. He was taken to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases the next day and was confirmed to be infected.
His serological test result for past infection has come back negative, indicating that this is likely a current infection.
FOUR OTHER COMMUNITY CASES
The remaining four locally transmitted cases of Covid-19 recorded on Saturday are sea crew working on board a bunker tanker.
They had not disembarked from the vessel except to go for Covid-19 testing or vaccination.
As they had been identified as close contacts of an earlier case, an Indonesian who worked on the same bunker tanker, they were placed on quarantine on April 16.
Among them, three had no symptoms, while one developed a cough on April 21 but did not report his symptom.
They were tested for Covid-19 on April 22 during quarantine and their test results came back positive on the same day. Their serology test results are pending.
Two of the four had received their first doses of the Covid-19 vaccine — one of them got a shot on April 7 and the other had received it on April 15.
IMPORTED CASES
The 18 imported cases were:
A Singapore PR who returned from India
Three dependant’s pass holders who arrived from India and the Maldives
Three student's pass holders and a work pass holder who came from India
Six work permit holders who arrived from Bangladesh, India, Myanmar and the Philippines, of whom two are foreign domestic workers
Four short-term visit pass holders. Three arrived from Croatia, Germany, Indonesia and Romania for work projects in Singapore and the fourth arrived from India to visit his family member who is a Singapore PR
They had all been placed on stay-home notice or isolated upon arrival and were tested while serving their notice or during isolation.
UPDATE ON CONFIRMED CASES
The total number of infections in Singapore is now 60,966.
In all, 60,629 have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including 16 on Saturday.
There are still 88 confirmed cases in hospital. Of these, most are stable or improving, and one is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Another 219 are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.
So far 30 have died from complications due to the disease.
