IPOH: A couple was found with their throats slit in Kampung Ayer Tawar near Manjung early Sunday.
Neighbours found K. Ashahkumar, 36, wrapped in foam mattress in the living room of his wooden house while his wife, V. Panumathy, 38, was lying unconscious outside at about 1am.
Perak police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said Panumathy was still breathing when neighbours found her. She died on the way to the hospital.
Mohd Shukri said the couple were found with their throats slit.
"Ashahkumar was certified dead due to serious bleeding by a medical team at the scene. “Panumathy had injuries on her neck and head. She was lying about 100m from the house, in the middle of the road by neighbours.
"She was still breathing and was rushed to the Manjung Hospital but died on arrival there," Mohd Shukri said.
Police have classified the case as murder pending further investigations.
"We do not rule out that the incident could have been caused by a misunderstanding between the couple," Mohd Shukri said adding that police would also investigate if robbery could be a cause for the killing.
It was learnt from the neighbours that the couple earned a living by spraying pesticide at nearby oil palm plantations and often quarreled with one another.
