Couple arrested over maid abuse
KUALA LUMPUR: A Cambodian maid was allegedly whipped with a stick and wire by a couple in Cheras, causing her to flee from the couple’s house on Tuesday. The 25-year-old woman is believed to have been assaulted by the couple since January. She started working for them some time last year.
Cheras acting OCPD Supt Abdul Rahim Hamzah Othman said the maid fled from the couple’s house in Taman Alam Damai and sought help from a neighbour, who took her back to the employment agency. The neighbour made a police report at about 5pm on Tuesday.
The couple, aged 42 and 43, was arrested at their home at about 7pm on Wednesday. Supt Abdul Rahim said the maid had injuries on her body, hands and legs, “Initial investigations revealed that the couple used a stick and wire to beat the maid.
“She was sent to a hospital and given outpatient treatment,” he said. The couple has been ordered to be remanded until today. The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing injuries with a weapon.
