Intelligence quotient (IQ) is a measure of human intelligence. People who want to have their IQ measured take standardized tests and receive a score that ranks their intelligence level. The higher one's IQ score, the more intelligent that person is considered to be.

IQ and Education: Two Sides of the Same Coin​

IQ scores typically reflect the quality of education and resources available to people in their local geographic region. Areas of the world with lower IQ scores are typically poorer and less developed, particularly in the area of education, compared to countries with higher IQ scores. Many researchers also use IQ to determine the smartest countries in the world. The IQ map above shades each country depending on how high the average IQ score is. A darker shade of violet indicates a lower IQ score. Conversely, countries with a higher average IQ score appear red-orange in color.

Which Country Has the Highest Average IQ?​

According to a 2019 study by researchers Richard Lynn and David Becker at the Ulster Institute, the highest average IQ scores in the world belong to the Japanese, with the citizens of Taiwan and Singapore close behind. The top 10 list appears below, and the full rankings appear in the table further down this page.

Others claim Lynn, an unabashed eugenicist, misinterprets his data to support conclusions that are both scientifically inaccurate and supportive of white supremacy.

As the data demonstrates, there is a wide range of average IQ scores across the globe. Some researchers divide the world's countries into ranked categories based on their average IQ scores. These averages were obtained by starting with the country's average score in standard IQ tests (a common starting point), then fine-tuning those scores with additional measurements, such as national math, reading, and science assessments, while also factoring in the overall quality of the data.

Other Methods of Measuring Intelligence​

However, it's important to remember that IQ isn't the only way to measure intelligence. There are actually many different ways to seek out the smartest countries in the world, and many of them have nothing to do with average IQ. For instance, you could compare each country's academic test scores, its likelihood of "expanding the frontier of knowledge" and introducing new data technologies (Intelligence Capital Index), or even the number of Nobel Prizes each country has won. In fact, you could even combine all three stats.

It is a fair assessment of IQ scores based upon Scientific data. May ALL Singapore citizens rejoice that they are among the top tiers. However, let's be humble & realistic - those scores conducted are based upon scientific data from 2019, which means most current school kids. If that research was done in 1965, it would be highly doubtful if we Singapore would rank any where even in the mid range, as most were not educated due to colonial policies which only favored the rich & connected to knowledge.

It only goes to show HOW MUCH we living Singaporeans, founding fathers & forefathers had placed EDUCATION as a NATIONAL collective priority. Each Earthborn child born are born equal. It is the NUTURING that brings out the best from each child. It came from COLLECTIVE funds for EDUCATION & under wise leadership for each child - male or female in Singapore, to have equal opportunities as based upon our daily sworn National Pledge, to the realities of life after education, to progress further for collective good of Nation.

Our founding & forefathers had led the way, & the results are now proven, thanks to their efforts & dedicated teachers for half a century. They did a good job & we must NEVER be complacent on our education policies, & MUST build further upon our education systemic success thru further research, to find the best methods to ensure our kids are given the best opportunities & methods to learn & progress, & critically - safely, as there is only so much that a newborn mind can absorb.

However, IQ scores only shows one's ability to absorb, analyze physical issues & find physical solutions. It is often cold, methodical & clinical, based upon principles of known proven SCIENTIFIC data of today. Unfortunately, there are NO QUANTIFIABLE variables to assign mathematical formulas to Human emotions, only the science of probabilities - of 2 or even many possible outcomes, to choose from.

Besides such complexities, the only known logical equations of Human emotions are largely based upon philosophies learnt from experiences by intelligent ancestors, passed down to us their descendants to find solutions. It lays in EQ - emotional quotient. It has a extremely High range of mathematical variables & one would have to resort to 'fuzzy logic sets' for quantifiable results....

To be successful, a leader, an innovator, etc, DOES NOT lay in IQ alone, as proven in unvarnished historical data from several reliable sources since the dawn of civilization. It lays too in EQ, the necessary ingredient, which is often the opposite of the ingredients of IQ to find TRUE solutions to resolve issues.

Example - to best destroy an issue with IQ would be just to kill it. Such solutions are cold, methodical & clinical. Unfortunately, it does NOT solve the question of WHY the issue came about in the 1st place, the ROOT of the issue. Killing it in EQ ignorance would only lead to un-intended consequences which would only lead to bigger issues later on.

Thus, may our education policy makers not rest on their laurels, leave the rankings alone, but consider EQ teachings as well, be it in mathematical form or even as a start - CIVICS lessons, to inculcate logic, actions & consequences, pragmatism, etc, to help our next generations to progress not just on material success alone, but live life successfully as well, not just a Singaporean, but a worthy contributor to all Humanity & Human Civilization's progress/evolution with blinkers off as well...
