JOHOR BARU: Police are investigating a report about a posting on Facebook which alleged that the Sultan of Johor had used public money to buy high-powered motorcycles and other vehicles for the police. Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the post on the social networking site defamed the ruler.
“We are investigating the matter and have also referred the case to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for further action. “A report was lodged at the Johor Baru South district police headquarters at about 4.33pm on Oct 14,” he told pressmen when asked to comment on the matter yesterday. DCP Mohd Mokhtar advised the public not to misuse technology to violate the law.
“The public should not think that they can do as they please and get away with it. “Sooner or later, they will be brought to justice,” he said, adding that the matter would be investigated for sedition. In the Facebook post on Thursday, the writer questioned the funds used for the purchase of several Harley Davidson motorcycles which were handed to police.
Earlier this week Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar donated 19 vehicles to the Royal Malaysian Police Force worth a total of RM5.5mil. The vehicles comprising nine Australian made Holden Commodore cars, two Proton Perdana and eight Harley Davidson 1700cc motorcycles will be used as escort vehicles for the Sultan and members of his family.
