Cops recover bomb cache in robbery suspect’s home

KULAIJAYA: A police team, tracking down a suspect involved in an armed robbery, stumbled upon a cache of weapons including bombs and detonators in the house of an army officer here.
Police have so far recovered a dozen detonators, bullets and booby traps from the officer, who is believed to be a bomb specialist, during the 1.45am raid in Senai.
It is learnt that police were investigating the man in connection with a recent goldsmith robbery in the state, which led officers to the house.
It is learnt that a search around the house led to the seizure of the items in one of the rooms several days ago.
Initial investigations showed that the explosives were smuggled out of an army camp in Ulu Tiram.
Kulaijaya OCPD Supt OCPD Supt Zulkefly Yahya confirmed the arrest of a 31-year-old army personnel and the seizure of an array of items including bullets and other explosive-making related items.
Meanwhile, in another unrelated case, the Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) southern region detained a local fishing boat for trying to sell 60,000 litres of subsidised diesel worth RM1.2mil to ships in the waters off Penggerang.
MMEA southern region enforcement chief Maritime Rear Admiral Adon Shalan said the vessel was detained after his officers found the diesel kept in boxes at about 11.45am on Sept 8.
He added that the boat captain and four crew, aged between 20 to 40, were detained.
