Cops nab Singaporean trader for selling syabu

By AUSTIN CAMOENS

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have nabbed a Singaporean trader who, for months, has been selling syabu to drug dealers in the city.

The 48-year-old man was believed to be raking in a profit of about RM60,000 per kilo of the synthesised drugs, which he procured from a local syndicate here.

Little did he know that officers from the city Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) were monitoring his movements.

City NCID chief Asst Comm Wan Abdullah Ishak said police had been trailing the man since early this month.

"We arrested the man as he was about to meet a potential buyer at a fast food outlet in Ampang at around 9.15pm on Tuesday,” he told a press conference at the City police headquarters Thursday.

He said that when police arrested the man, he had on him about 1kg of Grade 2 syabu hidden in a tissue box.

"We took the man in for questioning and he revealed that he had been dealing syabu for several months now.

"Further investigations revealed that he had been getting the drugs from a local syndicate here," he said, adding that the man had a drug record in Singapore and tested positive for methamphetamine abuse.

He said that the man has been remanded until Sept 18 to facilitate further investigations.
