JOHOR BARU - The teenage girl waited while two others, armed with weapons, robbed a house. Once they were done, she drove them away in a stolen getaway car.

But their escape did not last long because the 17-year-old lost control of the Mercedes-Benz and hit a kerb while they were being chased by the police.

Her two male accomplices managed to get away but she was stuck in the car as she could not unfasten the safety belt.

Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said police received a report of the robbery at a house along Jalan Desa Puteh at Taman Utama Yong Peng in Batu Pahat on Monday at about 2.10am.

He said two of the suspects, armed themselves with semi-automatic pistols, robbed the house and one of them fired a shot that slightly injured the victim.

"We managed to locate the stolen vehicle along Jalan Muar-Yong Peng where the suspects fired several shots at my men during a chase.

"The female suspect lost control of the vehicle and hit the shoulder," he said.

He said police managed to recover stolen property, including the victim's Mer*cedes-Benz and another that was reported stolen in Negri Sembilan.

DCP Mohd Mokhtar also said they had confiscated a semi-automatic gun, a magazine with five bullets, another 14 loose bullets, a parang, two knives and tools used by the suspects.

In another case, police detained two suspects including a woman, believed to be part of a car theft syndicate that targeted luxury cars in the city centre.

Police are also looking for two more suspects and urged those with information to contact the state police hotline at 07-221 2999.

DCP Mokhtar said police had also uncovered a drug-trafficking syndicate that used electric cables to hide RM1.2mil worth of syabu.

A 32-year-old man was detained along Jalan Kluang in Batu Pahat on Dec 5 at about 4.30pm.

He added that the suspect was carrying a suspicious-looking box into a courier office before police stopped him and found a 19.8m-long electric cable with 3.77kg of the drug hidden inside.

This is the first time the state police have encountered syabu in powder form.

DCP Mohd Mokhtar did not rule out that the suspects were part of a larger group with ties to an international drug syndicate.

Police had also caught three members of Geng Tikus, including the leader. The gang had been involved in break-ins and robberies since early this year.
