PETALING JAYA - A policeman broke a tooth and suffered other injuries when he wrestled down a suspected robber who was armed with a parang following a motorcycle chase.
The drama had begun when two policemen on patrol near SS16/1, Subang Jaya, spotted three men on two motorcycles behaving suspiciously.
They sped off when the policemen approached them at 12.50am yesterday.
"The police managed to catch up with one of them near Bandar Sunway. However, the man pulled out a parang and attacked him," Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Mohd Adnan Abdullah said yesterday.
He said the policeman pulled out his gun but accidentally opened fire at a passing Proton Wira with a couple inside.
The bullet hit the front windscreen but did not penetrate the window.
However, the broken glass shards caused minor injuries to the left finger, knee and shoulder of the man while the female passenger suffered injuries to her right shoulder.
Eventually, the policeman managed to wrestle down the suspect.
The suspect has since admitted to committing robberies with his two Indonesian accomplices who managed to escape.
In Shah Alam, a gang specialising in mini-mart robberies was nabbed following a sting operation.
The seven men have been linked to at least five robberies in the area.
"We set up a task force which carried out raids on three houses in Section 16, Shah Alam on Monday," SAC Mohd Adnan said.
SAC Mohd Adnan also said police had received two reports over the display of Sang Saka Malaya flags.
"We have seized both flags which were displayed on road dividers in Banting and Shah Alam on Sept 14."
