A POLICE officer unlawfully accessed the police computer system to look for information on his missing Indonesian maid.

The maid, Ms Erma Pujiyatun, had reported to the police that her employer, station inspector Sheik Faisal Shaik Abdul Kader Ali, had molested her.

It turned out that the then 20-year-old maid had made a false report as her relationship with Shek Faisal soured. She was later given a stern warning in lieu of prosecution.

When Sheik Faisal realised that Ms Pujiyatun had not returned home since early morning on Nov 22, 2009, he went back to Bedok Police Division and used the computer system in a bid to trace the missing maid.

Sheaik Faisal, 35, who was the investigation officer of the arsenic case involving Fong Quay Sim, 69, admitted on Thursday to three of 14 counts of computer misuse that day. Fong has appealed against both the conviction and 12-month jail sentence. Sheik Faisal will be sentenced on July 8.

A POLICE officer of 18 years' standing was jailed two weeks on Wednesday for unlawfully accessing the Ministry of Home Affairs' computer system to track down his missing maid.

Sheik Faisal Shaik Abdul Kader Ali, 35, a station inspector attached to Bedok police division, had admitted to three of 14 charges of computer misuse on Nov 22, 2009.

The court heard that when he realised that his maid Erma Pujiyatun, 20, had not returned home since early morning, he went back to his office and logged on the computer system and tried to trace her.

The police online system allows authorised police officers to lodge reports and carry out searches on reports made by members of the public.

Faisal, who used different time range and permutations of the Indonesian maid's name, found out that Ms Pujiyatun had reported that he molested her.

This turned out to be a false report. She had made the allegation against him as their love affair had turned sour. She had been let off with a stern warning in lieu of prosecution in January last year.

Faisal could have been fined up to $5,000 and/or jailed for up to two years on each charge.
