Cookery for dummies in Berlin one-stop shop

BERLIN (Reuters) - Cookery fans fed up with buying large packets of exotic ingredients for a one-off attempt at a new dish can now buy recipes together with the necessary ingredients -- all weighed out -- from a shop in Berlin. Matthew Renneberg and his friends opened the shop in the capital's Schoeneberg district to make life easier for time-strapped Berliners.
"People who don't have much time for shopping or cooking find all the inspiration and help they need here," he said. "When you leave the shop you have everything you need for a perfect evening, including the wine, recipe and accessories." Renneberg and his team spent months working on the recipes, getting friends to try them out to ensure they were quick and absolutely foolproof, even in the hands of a novice.
"The idea is that people should be able to buy the recipe after work and then cook it up for friends or loved ones the same evening," Renneberg said. "None of our dishes takes longer than 50 minutes to make." Prices for a main meal range from around 3 to 10 euros ($5 to $14) "It's a bit more expensive than normal supermarkets but because we sell the ingredients in the correct amounts, you don't have any waste so that brings the price down," Renneberg told Reuters.
Rainer Jahn, now one of Renneberg's regular customers, says the shop has saved him from culinary disasters: "When you attempt a dish yourself and it goes wrong, it's often down to the ingredients but you can find them all here," he said.
