Contractor killed trying to save girlfriend from Ah Long
KUALA LUMPUR: A building contractor was killed while attempting to save his girlfriend from being assaulted by five men, believed to be Ah Long, in front of the Kuala Lumpur wholesale market early Saturday. Tan Boon Tat, 51, from Kampung Kayu Ara, Petaling Jaya, who was seriously injured on the head, died at the scene in the 1.30am incident.
Sentul police chief ACP Zakaria Pagan said the incident occurred as Tan and his girlfriend, a Filipina, were leaving a karaoke centre nearby when they were followed by five men who then approached them. He said the men then demanded the return of the money which they claimed was borrowed by the woman's brother and began assaulting her when she denied that her brother had borrowed the money from them.
Zakaria said Tan was hit when he intervened to help the woman. The men fled in a black BMW after Tan fell to the ground, he added. Tan's body was sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem. Police are investigating the case for murder. Bernama
