EVEN before he could deliver his hit song Sex Bomb, singer Tom Jones bombed out of his concert in Singapore on Friday night.
The 69-year-old Welshman sang two songs in Resorts World Sentosa's (RWS) Compass Ballroom before announcing that he could not continue performing. His voiced had cracked on the last few notes of the second song, Give A Little Love.
'I have a problem,' he said and cleared his throat. 'Honestly, I don't think I can carry on. I hope we can do this again soon.'
Then he walked off the stage. At first, the nearly full-house audience of about 4,000 thought it was a stunt. Some cheered for him and sang the chorus of his hit song, Delilah. Reality hit home when the lights came on and confusion followed.
It took about 10 minutes more before the organisers announced that the concert had been postponed. The audience was told to check the RWS website at www.rwsentosa.com and local media for a rescheduled date, possibly next week.
A resort spokesman later told the media: 'This is unforeseen. We didn't know that Tom Jones was not feeling well.'
