Google is planning to spin out its browser-based Chrome OS "operating system" in the "late fall" of 2010, according to a Mountain View wonk.

Sundar Pichai, who was speaking at the Computex show yesterday, said the company's Windows rival would arrive later this year. However, Google's product management veep didn't nail a specific date.

That's pretty much sticking to what Google has already confirmed about when Chrome OS will be released.

As we reported last month, the ad broker unleashed a preliminary software development kit for Native Client, its native-code browser plug-in.

Google has said that Native Client will be an "important part" of its Chrome OS, which is set to debut on x86 and ARM netbooks by the end of the year.

The original research version of native Client ran on x86-32, and recently Google introduced versions that runs on x86-64 and ARM. The firm said Native Client executables run at about 97 per cent of the speed of unmodified native code.

The company announced it was releasing an operating system initially for netbooks in July 2009. Google said at the time that Chrome OS would land in the second half of this year.

The way to go is light-weight OS .

X10 the speed of data handling .

We'll have to see what it can do first. Its probably good for light users who only use the Internet browser and Media player anyway. Google have already announce previously that this is going to be a light weight OS. I doubt most power users or corporate users are going to make the jump anytime soon if that is really the case

If this came from Google based on Linux it won't be too bad regardless of how.

I had never seen a bad Linux any how, even the old 2.4x kernel haydays Red Hats are not so bad. Reliable Secure Efficient Easy to use.

Microsoft should fire the whole staff, so many years cho bo lan, pui!!! :oIo::oIo::oIo:

if cannot play games (normally on windows only) then its hard for most younger folks to convert..

if cannot play games (normally on windows only) then its hard for most younger folks to convert..

There are thousands of Linux games already, and more will come fast.

There will also be emulators to play Sony; Nintendo; Sega games etc, by Linux and you search these on Google you will find.

Every convert to Linux users will go through a stage to dual-boot between Linux and windows, Linux to do real works, windows to play and handle non compatible applications e.g. autocad. (autocad can be used via wine emulator)

There are many more pro users using virtual windows e.g. vmware under Linux.
