Coffee shops' income drops
Cheapskates hog seat and order just a drink while freeloaders gather on pavement outside coffee shop to watch matches for free

By Kenneth Goh

It is the World Cup season and eateries which screen the matches are packed.

But some, like San Jiang Eating House at Geylang Lorong 12, don't expect to cash in on the football fever.

For among the people packing the coffee shop are "cheapskates" and freeloaders.

The "cheapskates" hog a seat and order just one drink to last an entire match.

Some others leave a little of their drink untouched on purpose.

When asked if they want to have another round, they point to their unfinished drink.

Drinks stall assistant Loh Ah Hui, 52, said anyone who buys a drink will not be asked to leave.

The freeloaders, on the other hand, gather on the pavement outside the coffee shop to watch the matches for free.

Again, they will not be asked to leave.

They think by having some football channel provided they
can make back they money that they spent !

As I expected. Food stall will suffer more. Some coffeshop very smart they only use one screen and facing one side.only few table can see. If not whole cofee shop will be crowded but not one eating.

So big news meh? Standing outside and watch tv nothing new lei.. Just because ST and SH overcharge then becomes such big news... :S

blame singtel/starhub for charging sky high subscription price for world cup matches... i am sure many of them at the coffee shop would be happy to watch in the comfort of their home.
