A diner found a centipede in her beef kway teow while her colleague's noodles came with cockroaches.
First, her colleague encountered cockroaches scurrying away as the wait staff placed her claypot noodles on the table.
Then reader 'lets yin' nearly chomped on a dead centipede that she found soaking in her beef kway teow soup.
They encountered the nightmare lunch on Jan 29 at Magic Wok at Novena Square.
Disgusted with the restaurant's lack of hygiene, she wrote in an email to STOMP:
"I am writing to inform on the below establishment on their level of food hygiene. There were about 10 of us having lunch in the outlet and we each ordered our individual one-dish meal such as pineapple rice and hor fun, etc."
Complaint 1: Cockroaches
Her colleague's claypot yellow noodle had a dozen baby cockroaches running away from it the moment the server placed the dish on the table. He cleared the dish immediately but some of her colleagues saw what happened.
"The server came back shortly, within 2 minutes, to serve a claypot dish to my colleague which she refused. We suspect it was the same dish as among the 10 of us, she was the last to receive her dish. So when the incident happened, they couldn't have cooked the dish again in such a short time.
"We think the baby cockroaches came from the basket that is used as a sieve for the claypot.
Complaint 2: Centipede
'lets yin' said she was halfway through her Thai Beef Kway Teow Soup when she found a dead centipede, about 3cm long, in the bowl.
"When I informed the restaurant of the centipede, the supervisor offered to change the dish for me which I rejected. FYI, I am currently keeping the centipede as evidence.
"For both the incidents, the restaurant did not offer to investigate the source of the problems and treated the situation lightly.
"We have informed NEA on the matter and are awaiting their reply on the complaint."
