‘Holy Smokes’: CNN Data Reporter Shocked By Donald Trump’s Approval Rating

Public opinion of Donald Trump has shifted significantly in his favor since this point in his first term, CNN’s Harry Enten reported.

“Holy smokes. I mean, look at what the difference is between now versus eight years ago during the first Trump term, right?” the data journalist said Monday on “News Central.”

Enten showed an aggregate of multiple major polls, which showed Trump’s approval rating at -5 points in February 2017, compared to +4 points now.

“The bottom line is: Americans are far more likely to say they like what they’re seeing now versus what they felt during Trump’s first term,” Enten said.

Then, he pointed to another astonishing statistic.

In Trump’s entire first term, there were just 11 days where he had a net positive approval rating.

This time, since his Jan. 20 inauguration, the president has stayed on the positive side the entire time ― 21 days.

“That’s already 10 more days than it was in his entire first term,” said Enten. “So again, this is just another sign that Americans are far more likely to like what they’re seeing in his second term than they were during his first term.”

Enten’s assessment of this change boiled down to this: Americans seem to believe that Trump is following through on campaign vows this time.

“We’re living in a different world; 70% of Americans say Trump is doing what he promised to do. Again, compare that to April of 2017 when it’s just 46%,” he said.

“It’s no wonder that your net approval rating is much more likely to be on the positive side of the ledger than on the negative side,” he added.

In his first weeks in office, Trump has moved at a rapid pace to enact his agenda. He’s riled allies with threatened tariffs, started mass deportations, removed government guardrails against corruption, bulldozed diversity initiatives, attempted to purge federal workers en masse and sparked chaos with an order to freeze federal funding.

Before taking office, Trump had already admitted he would probably be unable to fulfill some of his biggest campaign promises, such as ending the Ukraine war in a day and lowering the cost of groceries.
