Published on Oct 28, 2011

By Leow Si Wan

The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has seized about one kg of 'Ice' or methamphetamine on Thursday- its largest seizure of the drug so far.

On Oct 27, CNB officers stopped a 49-year-old suspected Singaporean drug trafficker at the Woodlands checkpoint and searched the green Proton Gen 2 car he was driving.

During the search, four bundles of 'Ice' were found in the front console of the car.

In a separate operation the next day, CNB officers tailed a 44-year-old Singaporean who is suspected of being a drug coordinator.

He was spotted alighting from a Malaysian-registered white Perodua Kenari in the Pandan Gardens vicinity and was arrested.

A black plastic bag which he was spotted carrying earlier yielded 1.3kg worth of heroin. Another bag - containing 3.2kg of heroin - was found in his car.

SINGAPORE: The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has yielded the largest single seizure of "Ice" (methamphetamine) in its history.

About 1kg of "Ice" worth more than S$262,000 and a Singapore-registered car were seized on Thursday.

Officers stopped a 49-year-old alleged Singaporean drug trafficker at the Woodlands Checkpoint on Thursday afternoon and carried out a search of his car.

They found four bundles of "Ice" hidden in the car's front console and arrested him.

In another operation on Friday morning, a 44-year-old suspected Singaporean drug coordinator and his 38-year-old Malaysian associate were arrested in the vicinity of Pandan Gardens.

A black plastic bag, which the suspected drug coordinator was spotted carrying, contained heroin weighing about 1.3kg.

Officers also searched the vehicle they were travelling in and recovered a sling bag with about 3.2kg of heroin from the floorboard of the front passenger seat. In total, about 4.5kg of heroin and the car were seized.

All three suspected drug offenders would be further investigated for drug trafficking and importation offences. If convicted, they may face the death penalty.
