Posted: 04 November 2011 1933 hrs
SINGAPORE: The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has seized its second largest haul of "Ecstasy" tablets this year.
CNB officers stopped a 38-year-old suspected Singaporean drug trafficker at the Tuas Checkpoint and found a plastic packet containing over 1042 "Ecstasy" tablets in the engine compartment of the car driven by the suspect.
300gm of ketamine were also found in a bundle wrapped in newspaper.
Both the "Ecstasy" tablets and ketamine are worth about S$52,000.
If convicted, the suspected drug trafficker may face up to 20 years' imprisonment and 15 strokes of the cane.
In a separate operation in Ang Mo Kio, another suspected Singaporean drug trafficker was arrested.
The 40-year-old had tried to evade arrest by fleeing on foot and had tried to discard a plastic bag. The plastic bag was recovered and nearly 1kg of cannabis worth nearly S$33,000 was found inside the bag.
The suspected drug trafficker in this case may face the death penalty, if convicted.
