导致印度发生如此变化的其实还是美国的态度，美国制裁伊朗这件事情最大的受益者只有他自己，其他国家基本上都是讨不到什么好处的。美国自然是不用担心没有石油可用，而且全世界的石油都是用美元结算的，谁亏钱他都不可能亏钱。然而美国的盟友中有很多国家也是能源需求大国，每年都要进口伊朗大量石油，美国这个举动切身损害了他们的利益。
印度是世界上第二人口大国，13亿的人口数量就已经决定了他们每天要使用的石油量肯定不会少。而美国在这个时候对伊朗进行制裁，印度短时间内去哪里找到了一个新的合作伙伴？而且现在伊朗的石油价格肯定会下跌，印度也没有办法停止跟他的合作。所以印度在中国表态之后，也坚决的站了出来，表示对伊朗的支持。
这中间，美国的国防部长甚至亲自前往印度商谈相关事宜，但是印度这次态度罕见的坚决，表示自己并不会改变意见。而这次印度跟美国的抗争，目前来看还是印度取得了胜利，美国这也算是给了自己一个台阶，否则他也不能够真的制裁印度，这样两国的军火交易就要泡汤了。
从这件事情其实也能够看出来，美国的霸权主义也并不是不可以抗争的，他的这个位置有一部分是源于盟友的支持，所以一旦这些国家联起手来反对美国，那么美国也将会陷入孤立无援的境地。而且这次印度可能也是抓到美国的软肋了，除了要继续进口伊朗石油之外，他们还不顾美国的反对，坚持进口俄罗斯的S400防空系统。
