The spin doctors of SPH have quickly moved in to offer a silver lining in the midst of the gloom which has developed to enshroud the entire island.
In an article published on page 2 of The Straits Times on the first day of 2009, the incorrigible PAP spin doctor Chua Mui Hoong waxes lyrical over the PAP’s accomplishments for the past 50 years which transform Singapore from “poverty to the bustling metropolis that it is today”.
She went on to illustrate why Singapore will survive the downturn because “the traits that helped it get to where it is today are precisely the same traits that will get it back on a firm footing in the current crisis.”
The comparison is both inappropriate and irrational as past accolades were never an ingredient for future successes. The nature of the crises Singapore face is completely different then and now.

ms chua is absolutely correct. singaporeans will pull through.we will overcome this crisis. we will survive.we are resilient people. majulah singapura!!!

seriously, does anyone read ST or other related papers these days?

i've stopped reading any nation building press since i can't remember when, except when i'm looking for sales and promotion advertisements. there are countless other mediums for getting updated on news and world events. ST is definitely out of my list.

PAP started off as social democrats and worked to improve the life of the working poor as a dedicated political party that was firmly in touch with the ground.

The PAP now is run by aristocrats and implements policies that favour the rich and the elites, with many policies totally out of touch with the ground.

Whether PAP will continue to dominate in the post-LKY era is still in doubt. By then, I'm sure spin doctor Chua will change her tune to fawn on her new political master.
