A 50-year-old man in China is recovering after finally undergoing surgery to remove half of a wooden chopstick from his stomach that he swallowed
28 years ago.
According to Shanghai Daily, the man identified only as Wang, had avoided going to the hospital for nearly three decades because he was afraid of needing an operation and was not feeling any discomfort. Wang was finally rushed to the hospital Monday, where doctors discovered the chopstick had severely damaged the wall of his stomach, causing an internal hemorrhage. After years of rotting and warping, doctors were unable to remove the chopstick through Wang’s throat and were forced the cut through his stomach. Wang is still recovering in the hospital and his doctors say he is doing well.
