A traffic warden in eastern China has been arrested after she struck a woman with a hammer for crossing a road when the light was red, according to a news website report.
People in the area said the warden had several arguments previously with the woman because she habitually crossed the road during the rush hour, ignoring traffic signals, the news website Thepaper.cn reported.
The attack happened at about 6pm on Tuesday in Qingdao in eastern Shandong province.
The traffic warden shouted at the woman to stop crossing, but was ignored.
The warden then ran into the street and struck the woman on the head with a hammer, the report said.
After the attack the woman shouted repeatedly at other passers-by: “I won’t let you run the red light.”
The victim survived the attack, the report said.
