BEIJING: An official has been detained in China after allegedly accepting bribes so he could pay for sex and pursue a plan to sleep with up to 800 women, state media said Wednesday.
The 47-year-old department head in the eastern city of Anqing was turned in by his wife last month after she discovered his diaries, containing detailed records of his sexual trysts and bribe payments, the Dahe Daily reported.
The man, given the pseudonym Wang Cheng by the paper, also secretly recorded his exploits on video and stored the footage on a portable hard drive found with the diaries, it said.
"He was busy eight hours a day seeking bribes, and eight hours a day as a hooligan seeking sex," the paper quoted prosecutors as saying.
In his earliest diary entries from 2003, Wang set out the goal of bedding at least 56 women a year while maintaining two mistresses "from respectable families," it said.
In order to do that, Wang said he would need to collect up to 100,000 yuan (14,600 dollars) in bribes, about five times his annual salary, that year alone.
In subsequent years, as Wang moved up the ranks at work, he took more bribes - and bedded more women, especially as those who paid him kickbacks, many involving real estate deals, found out about his fondness for sex.
Wang admitted to spending several hundred thousand yuan buying sex, the paper said.
"If it was not for the power that he held in his hand, he would never have been able to scam the money," the prosecutors said.
Wang claims in his journals to have slept with at least 500 women, and had set the goal of having sex with "600 to 800", it said.
China's ruling Communist Party has battled corruption for years, seeking to counter anger from the masses over regular reports of graft and debauchery among officials.
But reports of official corruption continue to emerge, often exposed by web users or the state media.
Last month, an official in Guangxi province was sacked and arrested after his diary detailing sexual hi-jinks and bribery was splashed across the Internet.
Han Feng's diary contained graphic accounts of sexual trysts with several young women, including government employees, and recounted regular liquor-soaked banquets with other officials and businessmen.
