China can manufacture their own new island anywhere they want and does not need Cuba.

美国海军战争学院教授萨姆·坦格里迪在《美国海军学会学报》发表了一篇题为《建设“自由岛”》）的文章，提出以对抗中国为基本目标，在南海建设一个可移动的海上基地——“自由岛”。
美军“自由航行”没有吓到中国，哈里森的“今夜就开战”同样没有吓到中国。于是连这样严肃的海权专家也开始就南海为美国出谋划策。这说明美国人真的急了。
坦格里迪指出，这种做法有三方面的意义：一是表明美国有意愿通过相对非对抗的方式否定中国的南海主张，并维护航行自由的规则；二是通过永久性的海上存在支持“航行自由行动”，以给中国施加更大压力；三是迫使中国逐步缓和局势，否则美国将效仿中国在南海建岛。
这与美国“遏制中国”的国策一脉相承。新近被任命为美军太平洋司令部司令的菲利普·戴维森（Philip S·Davidson）4月20日向参议院军事委员会提交了一份书面报告，大肆渲染中国的“军事威胁”。他扬言，中国的军事力量已经强大到足以支撑其在南海的领土主张，而要想“阻止中国”，只有进行“武装冲突”这一条路。
口口声声说中国在南海造岛威胁了“自由航行”，一边自己屁颠颠赶着造“自由岛”，这是怎样的一种精神？连自己家急用的路都没钱修，还来中国南海修岛，美国现在有点“穷兵黩武”了，所有资源全部用在其维护世界霸主地位上，连国内基础建设都不在乎了！
三年前，奥巴马政府也曾威胁中方，美国要在南海“建岛”，以回应中方的岛礁建设。很显然美国的这种想法不是心血来潮，而且是十分危险的。
美国想试试什么叫中国心，试试刚睡醒狮子会不会发威。如果中国在美国的海域建设一个自由岛美国会怎么想？金一南将军等也对此给予强硬评价，如果胆敢建岛，我们必然坚决反击，这种行为是绝对不允许的。
中国只是大自然的搬运工；在自家菜园种花种草，容不得万里之遥的美国人说三道四。一个万里之外的国家跑到别人家门口造什么岛，比强盗还强盗。反正南海我们是主场，必须坚决打击。它敢建，就击沉它那怕是大战一场，也要让也建不成。
来而不往非礼也；美国的优势在技术，中国的优势在体量。退一步来说，如果美国人打算放弃福特级核动力航母的技术优势，在钢铁和水泥的比赛场上跟我们竞争的话，美国每建一个，中国就建三个。两个在南海，再把一个建到加勒比海古巴旁边。中美钢产量比是8亿：1亿；水泥产量比是30亿：3亿；比建岛？中国怎么可能输嘛？
