Chinese mouthpiece Global Times in an op-ed said that “the spreading unrest in the US shows that the US political system is not immune to social instability.”

It further said that many people were using the hashtag #AmericanSpring on Twitter, comparing the social movement Arab Spring with the violent protests.

China has linked the protests in the US with the one taking place in Hong Kong after it announced that it will be imposing national security law to curb dissent. The US along with European countries termed Beijing’s controversial decision a direct violation of international treaties.

“Why would anyone be mad with others for installing a security door at their own home?” Chunying said in a tweet.

China has equated its national security legislation like a security door to protect the safety and freedom inside.
