<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I refer to last Sunday's letter by Mr Chan Mia Lee, 'Chiam See Tong should call it a day'.
Contrary to Mr Chan's views, Mr Chiam is still very capable of performing his duties as MP of Potong Pasir.
We have a committed Singapore People's Party (SPP) team to give him administrative support for the meet-the-people sessions (MPS).
Mr Chiam has instructed the MPS team to personally follow up on every single resident that has applied for financial assistance from the Southeast Community Development Council.
The town council team, under the chairmanship of Mr Chiam, is managing Potong Pasir very well. Its cleanliness and services are on a par with People's Action Party town councils.
We are currently carrying out repairs and redecoration in all flats in Toa Payoh Lorong 8, and we are also replacing lifts in the Potong Pasir district.
Although it was reported that Mr Chiam's speeches in Parliament were slow and barely audible, he has prepared many proposals, including the lowering of transport costs for tertiary students, compressed natural gas (CNG) cars, as well as suggested that the Government provide financial support for caregivers.
These speeches can be downloaded on the SPP website.
In terms of community activities, we have just organised a Chinese New Year lunch for residents and Mr Chiam was there to spend time with residents and give out hongbao.
Mr Chiam, together with the SPP team, had also greeted residents from the Toa Payoh Lorong 8 market on the eve of Chinese New Year.
Mr Chiam is supported by a team of capable people. We owe it to the voters of Potong Pasir to continue to serve them well. Wilfred Leung
