<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->IT WAS Christmas Day and I had planned to watch the holiday movie The Santa Clause on Channel 5. When it started, I was shocked to see Christmas SMS messages flashing on top of the screen. Later, when I watched a game show, The Price Is Right, the same thing happened.
I am not against any use of technological advances in communication, but these SMS messages flashed continuously on the screen and were annoying and distracting to viewers. I am sure if the same were to happen in cinemas throughout a film, there would be strong objections from cinema-goers.
When watching a programme on television, there should not be any distractions unless the messages are for emergency reasons - for example, an open mobilisation exercise.
If this is another way to generate revenue, perhaps MediaCorp could flash these SMS messages on the screen during commercials instead.
To conclude, I did not finish watching either show. I switched to another channel without SMS messages. Leong Yoke Heng
