Charged with ill-treatment

<!-- end left side bar --> <!-- story content : start --> A SELF-EMPLOYED man was charged in court on Thursday with ill-treating his two young nephews under his care. The 44-year-old man allegedly caned the two boys, aged nine and 11, at his home on April 3. The night before, he is said to have ordered the older boy to slap the younger brother 70 times. Earlier the same day (apr2) at his office, he is accused of ordering the 11-year-old to slap the brother 20 times. The accused cannot be named to protect the identities of the victims. Mr Chen Chee Yen appeared for the accused. A pre-trial conference has been fixed on Jan 4. If convicted, he faces a fine of up to $4,000 and/or a jail term of up to four years on each charge.
