Charged with 2 rapes, robberies
KUALA LUMPUR: A salesman who allegedly advertised "job opportunities" on the Internet was charged with raping and robbing two women who answered the advertisements yesterday.
Chai Ruong Huei pleaded for bail at the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
The women were allegedly raped and robbed in two separate incidents in hotels in the city.
Chai Ruong Huei, 29, of Taman Alam Megah, Shah Alam, was charged with raping a 19-year-old woman in a room at Hotel Royale Bintang, Jalan Bukit Bintang, at 1pm on Oct 25, 2010.
He was also charged with robbing the woman of her handphone and RM500 at the same place and day.
Chai was also slapped with another charge of raping a 21-year-old woman in a room at My Home Hotel Sdn Bhd in Setapak at 11.40am on Sept 15 and robbing the woman of her iPad and a handphone.
Chai was also alleged to have sodomised the woman the next day at the same place. He claimed trial to all charges.
Deputy public prosecutor Ooi Chean Ling urged the court not to grant the accused bail as Chai was also being investigated for three other cases of rape, theft and robbery in Cheras and Pandan Indah.
"He can be described as a serial rapist. In the case before this court today, he is charged with raping two women," said Ooi.
Chai, who was unrepresented, pleaded for bail before Sessions Court judge Emelia Kaswati Mohamad Khalid.
The judge denied Chai bail and set Nov 9 for mention.
It was reported that the victims were raped and robbed when they answered an advertisement on the Internet for attractive paying jobs as sales promoters.
