FOR the past six months, officers of the newly-formed Casino Crime Investigation Branch have been learning how casino games are played and how scams may be pulled off. They have also been formulating internal procedures and protocols and gone for overseas stints and conferences in places like Las Vegas and Macau. The branch which comes under the umbrella of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was officially launched on Wednesday by Acting Police Commissioner Ng Joo Hee.
Speaking at the launch, Commissioner Ng said: 'CID has been diligently learning from other international jurisdictions. We have adopted their best practices, and have also learnt from their more bitter lessons of experience. The branch is made up of about 20 to 30 officers drawn from the CID and other police land divisions. It is headed by Superintendent Michael Ang, who has held postings including head of the Secret Societies Branch.
