SELANGOR - Reported cases of misconduct involving enforcement personnel increased from 18 cases last year to 288 cases up to Nov 16 this year.
The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) chairman Datuk Heliliah Mohd Yusof, however, believes the increase is just the tip of the iceberg.
From April to December last year, 18 cases were reported while 288 cases were reported from Jan 1 to Nov 16 this year, according to EAIC statistics.
"It's still the tip of the iceberg," she said during a press conference after the EAIC Seminar yesterday.
Heliliah said that the effort they made to hold dialogue sessions had spurred people to step forward.
There were 17 reports against the police force last year and 220 this year.
The police force had the most number of complaints because it was the biggest enforcement agency among 16 agencies under the EAIC's purview, she said.
Nor Afizah Hanum Mokhtar said that of the 112 preliminary investigations carried out, action was taken on 52 cases and two were resolved.
She said that 89 cases were rejected last year because the cases occurred prior to the implementation of the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commision Act 2009, or the cases did not come under the purview of the EAIC.
