SINGAPORE : A man was killed, and three others injured when their car crashed into a ditch in Jurong on Sunday night.
Police have arrested the 26-year-old male driver, suspected of drink-driving. He also does not own a driving licence.
A twisted wreck is all that is left of the Nissan. It is believed to have crashed through the road railings and slammed into a tree at Corporation Road before finally landing on its back in a ditch.
The sound of the impact jolted nearby residents.
"I heard a loud bang, so I went to look, and saw the wreck," a resident said.
The airbag might have saved the driver's life, but he was nowhere to be found when civil defence officers arrived at about 10pm.
He was later arrested in the vicinity, his clothes splattered with blood.
The other three passengers were sent to the hospital, where one died within two hours.
The car is owned by a cleaning firm.
A company spokesperson said: "I lent the car to the dead victim, not to the driver who didn't have a licence. Both were my former employees - of course, I know who has a licence. The victim and I got on well, but now he's dead, and I don't know what will happen with the car insurance. How can I not be shocked?"
The manager said the men had borrowed the car as they had relatives from India who were visiting.
