SINGAPORE — A 33-year-old man was taken to hospital after a car went up in flames on the Pan Island Expressway (PIE), near the Jalan Eunos exit, the authorities said on Monday (March 21).
The accident on Sunday morning, at around 10.35am, involved two cars along the PIE in the direction of Toa Payoh, said the police in response to queries.
The driver of one of the cars was taken to Changi General Hospital while he was conscious.
A spokesperson from the Singapore Civil Defence Force added that the blaze was extinguished using a water jet and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
Video footage of the fire taken by other drivers, including some posted on the YouTube channel of social media group SG Road Vigilante, showed a light blue Honda Fit engulfed in flames on the middle lane of a congested PIE.
Its front bumper appeared dented from an impact, while another silver car could be seen parked on the road shoulder several metres ahead.
Other footage showed the car charred by the blaze and shrouded in thick, grey smoke.
