Cabby jailed 4 weeks, banned from driving for fatal accident

SINGAPORE - A cab driver was jailed for four weeks and banned from driving all vehicles for five years, after he was found guilty of causing the death of a pedestrian last year through negligence.
Sum Lai Thou, 61, hit Madam Choy Yip Hian, 75, who was jaywalking across a junction along Serangoon road, on Dec 15 last year, reported The Straits Times.
His taxi was travelling at a speed of 70 to 80 kph.
The impact caused Madam Choy to be flung 10m, and she died on the spot with multiple injuries.
Sum pleaded guilty to causing the death of Madam Choy by failing to keep a proper lookout.
He could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined for the offence.
