HIS prey: Lone women, especially drunk ones.
His story: He had won a fortune gambling, and he wanted someone to celebrate with.
His bait: Cheap rides home and alcohol laced with drugs.
His den of sin: The black cab he drove.
For more than 10 years, that was how London taxi driver John Worboys, known as the black-cab rapist, stalked and lured his victims.
And the 51-year-old could be Britain's most prolific sex offender.
Police fear that more than 500 women could have been attacked by him, reported The Daily Mail.
Eighty-five have already come forward after Worboys' arrest in February last year. Now that he has been convicted on Friday, more photographs of him can be released, and the police are expecting hundreds more women to contact them.
Worboys, who has no previous convictions, was found guilty of 19 charges relating to 12 women, including one count of rape and 12 counts of administering a substance with intent to stupefy or overpower so as to enable him to engage in sexual activity.
He will be sentenced on 21 Apr and faces a life imprisonment.
Smooth operator
Calling himself 'Tony', Worboys hunted lone women, preferably drunk, and offered them cheap rides home.
Most of the women were professionals aged 18 to 33, who were picked up in London's West End or upscale Kensington after a night out drinking, reported The Telegraph.
Worboys would then stop his cab and get in the back to chat with the women.
He would claim he had just won thousands of pounds on the horses or at a casino, and even showed the women a carrier bag full of cash.
Worboys would then invite them to celebrate his winnings with him, providing champagne or vodka, into which he had crumbled sedatives.
Then he would bring up the topic of sex, reported Times Online. He would ask if they would have sex for £1,000 ($2,100) and would also offer them money to perform sex acts.
It was, he repeatedly told the jury, 'just my banter' and he did not mean anything by it.
He also told the court he simply wanted female attention as his mother had died when he was 13 and he was starved of 'cuddles' .
After he got the women in a drunken and dazed stupor, he would attack them.
In some cases, he even went into his victim's home. He has been linked with attacks in Surrey and Dorset, where he has a two-bedroom holiday apartment near Poole. He also used the flat as a studio to record adult films.
Inspector Dave Reid, who ran the investigation, said: '(He) took advantage of his established position of trust as a licensed black cab driver in London.
'He used this position to entice women into his cab where he took the opportunity to commit his frightening, degrading and humiliating attacks.
'The very nature of the drugs he used incapacitated his victims, producing an anaesthetic and amnesiac effect.'
Police believe the bisexual Worboys, an amateur porn star and former stripper, has been preying on women for 13 years, since he first started working as a London cabby.
Police base their estimate of 500-plus victims on the fact that Worboys drove seven nights a week and is known to have targeted up to three women a night.
But could Worboys have been stopped earlier?
He was first arrested in July 2007 after a student reported a sex attack in south-east London.
But blunders made by Scotland Yard detectives killed the investigation and Worboys was left free to continue his attacks until he was caught last year.
The police had missed another chance to nab Worboys after an attack in December 2007 when officers failed to send another victim's semen-stained trousers for forensic analysis.
Had they done so, they would have found Worboys' DNA on the national database.
The blunders could have led to over 30women being attacked unnecessarily.
Last year, a Scotland Yard officer spotted a police report made by a city lawyer on 5 Feb claiming she had been drugged and attacked by a London cabby.
He noticed similarities to other cases and an investigation and public appeal were launched. A rape centre worker, who had dealt with the July 2007 case, called the police at once.
Within minutes, officers swooped down on Worboys' £650,000 townhouse in south-east London.
Finally caught
The sexual predator was arrested just hours after his last attack. That same night, he had tried to assault two or three women before snaring his victim.
Police found his 'rape kit' in the boot of his other car parked in his driveway - it boasted a sex toy, champagne, wine, spirits, drugs and drinks glasses.
When he was convicted, Worboys put his head in his hands and moaned 'Oh my God', and started crying.
Inspector Reid said: 'Some of his victims can recall everything that happened to them, but were powerless to resist. Others can remember segments of the attack they experienced. Others suffered a frightening loss of memory for several hours...
'(The drugs) were not being administered within nightclubs or bars, but rather in a situation where the victims were entitled to feel safe.'

Ex-wife reveals how Worboys became stripper and 'sexual deviant'
BRUTAL, abusive and sick. That was how Mrs Jean Clayton, 51, described her ex-husband, John Worboys.
She told The Daily Mail: 'I last saw John about nine years ago and I hope he rots in hell for what he did to me and to those poor women.'
When Worboys was 27, his friend invited the then-security guard to a party. When a male stripper did not turn up, the friend volunteered Worboys 'for a laugh'.
The performance was a hit, and he started stripping regularly, calling himself Terry The Minder or just The Minder. In his heyday, he was raking in £1,000 a week from hen nights, gay bars and kissograms.
He met Mrs Clayton, a hairdresser and mother of three, in 1988 when he was booked as a stripper at the pub where she was working.
Mrs Clayton recalled thinking he was 'a perfect gentleman'. They married in 1991. But their sex life was dull and they had no children, said Mrs Clayton.
Bored by his wife, Worboys became a sexual deviant. He attended bisexual orgies and peeped at women in their flats as he walked home from strip shows.
Mrs Clayton said: 'One night, he came home in the early morning with m&d on his trousers. He sat down and cried and then said he had been in some bushes and been a peeping Tom.'
Another time, claimed Mrs Clayton, he said he followed a drunk girl home and masturbated over her while she lay in a stupor.
By this time, Worboys was training to become a licensed cabby.
Mrs Clayton said: 'Eventually I snapped and said I wanted a divorce and for him to leave but he just refused to go.'
The couple divorced in 1999, the same year Worboys stopped stripping.
By then he was acting in explicit porn films. It was around this time that he met lawyer Mary Syed, who had hailed his cab. They moved to a £1.5 million home in Hertfordshire, but split up in 2001.
