Cabbie sentenced to 48 years jail, 11 strokes of rotan for robbing and sexually abusing two passengers

KUALA LUMPUR: A taxi driver was sentenced to 48 years jail and 11 strokes of the rotan in the Sessions Court here for robbing two of his passengers and forcing them to perform oral sex on him in 2010.
Sessions Court Judge Emelia Kaswati Mohamed Khalid made the decision on Thursday against M. Saravanan, 30, after the defence failed to raise reasonable doubt during the trial.
Saravanan was jailed 16 years and ordered to receive five strokes of the rotan for forcing the 29-year-old woman to perform oral sex on him in a taxi at Jalan Metro Pudu 2, Fraser Business Park here between 1.50am and 3am on July 19, 2010.
He was also sentenced eight years jail and one stroke of the rotan for robbing the victim of RM350 and necklace at the same time and place.
Saravanan was also sentenced to 15 years jail and four stokes of the rotan for forcing the 27-year-old woman to do the same in a taxi at Jalan Sultan Salahuddin off Jalan Mahameru between 7.30pm and 9pm on July 9, 2010.
He also was sentenced to nine years' jail and ordered to be whipped once for robbing the woman of RM1,700, a laptop, two handphones and a camera.
The sentences were to run concurrently from June 16, 2011 with the sentences currently faced by Saravanan.
The judge also ordered Saravanan to be under police supervision for three years upon completing his jail terms.
