Bus driver in fatal accident involving Singaporean cyclist detained
SINGAPORE: A 45-year-old bus driver involved in the fatal accident that claimed the life of Singaporean Mr Arthur Yap on Sunday (June 15) has been detained by Malaysian police to assist with their investigations.
Nusajaya district police chief, Superintendent Noor Hashim Mohamad, told Channel NewsAsia on Wednesday: "We managed to detain the bus driver to assist in our investigations. When we complete the investigation, we will forward the investigation papers to DPP for advice."
Malaysian authorities also revealed that Mr Yap was in full cycling gear and that he had hit the back of the factory bus driven by the 45-year-old Malaysian.
The 48-year-old Mr Yap was celebrating Father's Day with his family at Johor's Legoland when the accident happened. The avid cyclist was said to be cycling alone near the theme park on Sunday, according to reports. - CNA/kk
