Burglary gang inspired by YouTube video tips

SEREMBAN: A YouTube video on tips for homeowners to prevent burglaries is apparently the “inspiration” behind a gang’s recent break-in of 32 homes here over the past three months.

However, the “Banchik Gang”, named after its 21-year-old leader, met its match when a senior citizen, whose home they broke into, gave chase and caught up with the youth.

Seremban OCPD ACP Saiful Azly Kamaruddin said the gang had been responsible for house break-ins in Sikamat, Paroi and Senawang since October.

“We were surprised when the gang leader told us that he had come up with his modus operandi after watching a YouTube video advising people on ways to prevent home burglary.

“He had actually used the tips given to homeowners to his own advantage. All the burglaries took place during the day when there were only a few people or nobody at home,” he said.

ACP Saiful said the gang was finally busted when a senior citizen from Taman Marida, Senawang, chased after the gang leader after he broke into his home.

“The suspect, who tried to escape on his motorcycle, was caught with the help of neighbours. He later confessed and named his two accomplices,” he said.
