SINGAPORE: Residents of Bukit Batok and fellow colleagues of the late Member of Parliament, Dr Ong Chit Chung, gathered on Saturday in remembrance of his contributions as the upgraded Bukit Batok Community Club was declared open.
Dr Ong, who passed away last year, was the former adviser to the Bukit Batok GRC grassroots organisations. He had helped to raise S$1.5 million for the community club.
In addition to that, the event saw the launch of a coffee table book on Bukit Batok called "Our Home on the Hill" – a project that was also initiated by the late Dr Ong. Every household in Bukit Batok will receive a copy of the book.
Minister for Prime Minister's Office and MP for Jurong GRC, Lim Boon Heng, said: "The book covers his work in Bukit Batok, the grassroots organisations, the grassroots leaders, amenities, facilities and many aspects of the community.
"This will give residents a sense of how things have improved in their community over the years. I hope it will encourage more residents to come forward to serve in the grassroots organisations. The book is dedicated to the late Dr Ong Chit Chung for his leadership."
