A NEW Facebook group called Singapore Elections has emerged on the social networking site, with fans from both the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) as well as opposition political parties.
Almost 300 people have signed up and they include Senior Minister of State for National Development Grace Fu, PAP Members of Parliament Lim Biow Chuan and Zaqy Mohamad, as well as grassroots organisations such as Aljunied GRC.
Among the opposition figures who have joined are National Solidarity Party's secretary-general Goh Meng Seng and Singapore Democratic Party's youth wing chief Jarrod Luo.
The Facebook group is an extension of the website of the same name - Singapore Elections, which was founded in May 1998.
The website provides comprehensive data on parliamentary and presidential election results in Singapore, dating back to the legislative council elections in 1948.
However, on the Facebook page, the information goes beyond just past polls.
There are some posts on political news and two discussion threads have also started.
The first, which began last December, is 'Has the PAP rule led to apathy'. The other is a post titled 'Up to six parties in the next GE'.
Mr Lim, an MP for Marine Parade GRC, said he signed up as a fan about a month ago.
'I joined thinking there might be some information that could be interesting as it is useful to keep your ears open,' he told The Straits Times last night.
He found out about the group after a message popped up on his Facebook page, inviting him to join as a fan.
