A British backpacker has been found dead on the same Thai island as two UK travellers were murdered on last year.

Christina Annesley, from Orpington in South London, died in unknown circumstances mid-way through a four-month trip across south east Asia.

There has been no suggestion of her death being caused by foul play.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said the British government was aware of the backpacker’s death and was liaising with the woman’s family.

“We can confirm the death of a British National in Thailand on 21 January 2014,” the spokesperson said.

“We are providing consular assistance to the family at this difficult time.”
