He only ever loved one woman

The last words of the Singapore Armed Forces Doctor who was found dead in Australia last Tuesday have finally been revealed, reported Shin Min Daily News.

In the final note to his loved ones, one poignant point stood out - Captain(Dr) Allan Ooi, 28, had been deeply hurt by the woman he loved most.

He said: "Although I had a few flings, I only loved (and still love) one woman.

"This failed relationship has hurt me in many ways and has caused me to hurt others in return.

"I would like to apologise for the people I hurt.

"To my best friend - The betrayal you made was only that small. Why did we stop talking after that? I really do treasure the friendship that we have."

Dr Ooi, who was cremated yesterday, had e-mailed his last words to a select group of friends he cherished, reported the newspaper.

He had disappeared for months, including having gone AWOL (absent without official leave) from the army since October last year.

His note, which was sent on 12.29am on the day of his death, has been posted on several websites.

Apart from talking about his lost love, Dr Ooi also voiced his unhappiness at work.

He said: "I am not depressed, and never have been. I was, however, intensely unhappy at the point of my departure from home, family and friends.

"My job was terrible - no joy, no satisfaction, 10-14 hours a day of nothing. A prison. One of my own forging, perhaps, by signing a contract with SAF at the age of 18."

In his closing words on the note, Dr Ooi said that his suicide was one of the solutions to his pain.

He said: "Maybe my (suicide) is a silly move, but I think that this is one solution.

"I do not believe in reincarnation or God, death should be the final end point."

I think most people agree Dr Ooi mad a foolish choice. As far as he is concerned, case closed.

The thing is that in any tragedy, it takes at least 2 to clap. While our 154th have done a excellent job smearing Dr Ooi, why have they not questioned whether SAF is properly utilizing its scholars? Why is someone so highly trained assigned to write newsletters?

Another thing is whether SAF can just suka suka extend people's contract without their consent. This is a very unfair employment practice.

he's a good guy. don't say anything negative about him. perhaps he has been deeply hurt by the lady he loved most?

perhaps one must learn how to love? and after the course/training, award with a certificate, then he/she is allowed to date and love, to prevent such to happen again?

and also training/course for sexual intercourse, award with a cert, then he/she is legal to maintain a happy marriage life?

same thing applys to walking, sitting, eating etc.?????

????????????????????????????????????????????????????!

People who commit suicide thinking their life sucks should really do more charitable work in 3rd world countries to see how MANY MORE with VERY MUCH LESS struggle to live on.

The MO who killed himself enjoyed a good comfortable life in a very well to do family. He got into what most people would consider an envious and coveted Medical Course and even a post graduate degree.

There are so many out there who want and wish to enter Medical school BUT CAN'T either due to financial constraints or do not have good enough grades to qualify.

There are many more out there who even have jobs that suck even more than merely DOING NOTHING for 10-14 hours. Thousands live from hand to mouth doing menial labour greater than 14 hours earning pittance for more than 12 years.

I am talking about the immigrant S'poreans who came to S'pore as coolies from CHINA with NOTHING. They slogged so that their children can get into schools to get an education and a good job and succeed in life to support their parents. These COOLIES slogged, scrimped and suffered greatly for at least 20 years or more till their children graduated and got a job. For them that is a very LONG >20 year unbreakable bond to serve in menial labour.

If all of them had whine and committed suicide where would be Singapore today?

As a scholar at 18, one gets to disrupt to do the 5 yr MBBS course with a disruption from NS; becoming an MO at age 24( after 1 yr as a houseman). A conversion course at the MOCC earns him his 3 bars as Captain. Followed by his post grad medical course (3 yrs?). By then he should be 27 yrs old. How old was he when he committed suicide? He only served at most 1 year of his 'unbreakable bond' when he killed himself at age 28.

How many actual years of working life did he suffer to complain that his job is terrible - no joy, no satisfaction.

How many lesser mortals have had a worst deal than that? Many have had worst jobs or denied a Uni education even or have been posted to vocations in army that really suck which carried on year after year as reservists. Do we all go AWOL and commit suicide?

I am sure there are many out there in S'pore who have had failed romances, got dumped etc; the girl you like does not reciprocate your love, NOTHING NEW there. Life goes on, it doesn't end there.

If these are the kind of scholar materials the the govt and the SAF are grooming based simply on good academic results alone, then Singapore is in DEEP TROUBLE.
