<!-- story content : start --> A MARATHON for the people - that is what Senior Parliamentary Secretary (Community Development, Youth and Sports) Teo Ser Luck wants the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon to evolve into next year. The run, which has capped its participation at 50,000 runners for logistical reasons, is now one of the biggest marathons in the world but Mr Teo hopes it can be expanded to accommodate even more runners next year. Speaking after he completed Sunday's 42.195km distance, he said: 'There is a long waiting list in every category. The organisers are very ambitious and there is a possibility to expand the event to make it a people's marathon. 'There should be a focus on the average runner. When I was running in this marathon, I was amazed there were so many runners. 'It's such a big change from the first Singapore Marathon in 2002, when 6,000 took part. We have to figure out how to accommodate all the runners. 'Singapore's sporting culture is on the up. We have to face the reality that more and more Singaporeans are picking up running.'

I find it TOTALLY inappropriate that POLITICS should mix with SPORTS.
If you are so totally FOR THE S'pore Marathon, more help should be given to the SAA.
Now that is is a success, CCB wants to come in and take credit.
I have also ran the MArathon from2002, I already know that they have upped the numbers slowly to this year's 50,000. It was a SUPERB EFFORT BY THE SAA ALL THESE YEARS. No one can take the credit from the SAA.
But do you hear praise for the SAA. No! Even though it has been a success year after year, culminating with this year's 50,000.....not one single word of praise for the SAA.
But plenty of innuendos that "they" will want to take the credit for this successful Marathon IN THE FUTURE. Phoooey!
POLITICS AND SPORTS SHOULD NOT MIX. Once you make this MARATHON 'for the people" (more like for himself) I AND MY FRIENDS WILL STOP RUNNING THE MARATHON. I KID YOU NOT.
