EDUARD TAY's letter contains to factual errors.

1) All PRs enjoy the SAME priority as citizens for ALL phases of Primary 1 Registration......not just in Phase 2C.

2) First generation male PRs don't have NS libaility at all. Second generation PRs can easily evade NS by leaving before the age of 16.


We now have more than 500,000 S'pore PRs and the figure will continue to growth at a rapid pace. Imagine the fierce competition for Primary 1 places!! Given how easy it is for a foreign to obtain S'pore PR, allowing PRs equal priority for Primary 1 Registration is tantamount to allowing foreigners such priority as well.

I very much doubt our ruling elite cares enough to change the current Primary 1 Registration policy.....because they (and their relatives) can get places any primary school of their choice for thei kids!!!!

Majority of foreigners/PRs will NEVER sink roots in S'pore. To them, S'pore is just a stepping stone to other far better countries such as the US, UK and Australia. Even LKY has recently acknowledged this fact.

Many take up PRs so as to enjoy the same benefits (eg. eductaion) as S'pore citizens. Once their kids finished secondary or JC education, they will say bye bye....thanks for the goodies but my son will not serve NS here!!!
