</TD></TR><!-- Story With Image End --><TR><TD class=bodytext_10pt colSpan=3><!-- CONTENT : start -->In a press statement released today, the Public Utilities Board (PUB) said that intense rainfall and debris in the drainage system was the reason for floods along the Orchard Road shopping district.
The PUB said in the statement that it conducted a thorough investigation into the cause of the floods in Orchard Road yesterday. This included a hydraulic analysis and thorough physical checks of the drainage system for Stamford Canal.
Investigations revealed that the flood was most likely caused by the short and intense rain which peaked twice on the morning of 16 June 2010 at about 9.30am and 10.30am that washed debris into a culvert near Delfi Orchard.

The culvert diverts water from Nassim and Cuscaden Road into two sections of Stamford Canal which runs along Orchard Road.

The PUB also said that it had already put in place a comprehensive system comprising litter traps, regular inspections and maintenance of drainage system to ensure that our drains remain clear and free-flowing.
Contractors to check and clear debris from the drains after every storm.
Arising from this incident, the frequency of maintenance inspections of critical closed drains will be stepped up from quarterly to monthly.
More litter traps in the open sections of drains will be installed to trap debris carried into the drains during a downpour.
In addition, more water level sensors will be installed along Stamford Canal to enable closer monitoring of unusual peaks and dips in water levels and to enhance investigations.

3rd time this month, that highlighted the inefficiency of the Civil Service, it has become bloated, expensive..no spur in their hide...

1. Tree Fell at Instana - Nparks -'trees got roots'
2. Spray paint Train Carriages - SMRT..staff thought it was some advert
3. Choke culvert - P.U.B.,," the frequency of maintenance inspections of critical closed drains will be stepped up from quarterly to monthly"

How lazy can they get...fat pay, fat bonuses.....near zero in productivity...

Got lots of money, dunno how to spend it & lots of shake leg free time.... so take up French gourmet cooking!!

A high dose of incompetency as predicted by LKY but not because the ministers are lowly paid but because they are highly paid resulting in complacency and silver serpent also not happy their boss get so much. Resentment breed laziness and thus all sort of problems started to shine. Will they blame Singaporean for the debris? Let's wait and see.

I am not surprised at the floods yesterday for I had expected it to occur for some time liao...... thanks to our highly esteemed FT cleaners.

Previously when the roads were swept by our ah peks and ah m&ds, they would bag the rubbish to be picked up later by the rubbish truck. Now the FT cleaners would simply sweep everything into the drains. Outside everywhere look spick and span but underneath in the drainage were all the rubbish.

Of course it would clog and cause flooding. :(

When the F***king 66% will wake up!! CCB! I hope theirs are the one whose business or jobs or cars are effected then they know all these while they had made an "HONEST MISTAKE"!!

In PAP point of view, it is the fault of Singaporeans who caused it. FT...is outside such malicious radar because the $10mil dollar integration have kept them protected.

This is the trouble when these CCB SERPENTS know that they can get BEST PAY in the world, but without the accountability exacted in the pte sector. And that's why the next GE is the last time Sporns can tear down the FAPee Wall of IRRESPONSIBILITY + LEEGALIZED CORRUPTION!

It reminds me of the 1970's when I was on a 10 storey and looked down in the carpark and the cars were half in the water. Is Singapore going backwards....instead becoming a first world nation......Is it re-inforcing its 3rd world status?
