The former coach of the Singapore Table Tennis team Liu Guodong had categorically denied reached an “amicable” solution with the STTA over the latest fiasco started by its president and PAP MP Lee Bee Wah!
Ms Lee had earlier caused a public backlash by casting aspersions on the “integrity and professionalism” of Mr Liu in an interview with the state media.
An angry Mr Liu threatened to take legal action against Ms Lee if she refused to retract her statements.
Till today, Ms Lee still did not substantiate her allegations about Mr Liu nor did she apologize.
The Straits Times published a report a few days ago claiming that both parties had reached resolved the matter peacefully.
It was refuted by Mr Liu who told Lianhe Zaobao that he did not pursue the matter for now due to work commitment.
“Who says I have agreed to close the case already? She (Ms Lee) had not apologized to me yet! I am only putting it on hold because of my hectic work schedule,” he retorted.
Mr Liu said that since he took over the Ningbo provincial team in June, they had won a few gold medals in China’s competitions which is ample proof of his “experience”.
Mr Liu did not mention when he will be returning to Singapore to continue seeking justice.
The Singapore Table-Tennis team won Singapore’s first Olympic silver medal in last year Beijing’s Olympic games in 48 years under the guidance of coach Liu.
STTA president Lee Bee Wah, who had only assumed the position three weeks earlier spoiled the nation’s celebratory mood by threatening to remove both Liu and his assistant Mr Antony Tan in Beijing.
Though many Singaporeans felt that she is not quite the right person to lead STTA, she remains secure in her position by virtue of the fact that she is a PAP MP.
