Brawl breaks out in East Jakarta penitentiary

A brawl broke out Sunday morning involving more than 300 convicts in the Pondok Bambu penitentiary, East Jakarta, injuring one of them.
Supranto, an official at the penitentiary, said the fight happened between convicts in the Cempaka and Dahlia blocks.
"Dika, the leader from the Dahlia block, started the fight with Yanto from the Cempaka block," he said.
Dika’s head was injured and a billboard in the Dahlia block was burned during the brawl.
"There are only 10 staff working on Sunday, so it's difficult for them to handle the situation," he said. During weekdays, 25 officials guard the penitentiary.
He said 104 prisoners who could potentially provoke a further brawl had been evacuated to the Salemba and Cipinang penitentiaries.
The Pondok Bambu penitentiary holds a total of 1,454 prisoners.
