Online Only - Increased rents at wet markets: Any help for stallholders?
Letter from Nelson Quah

<!--replace --><SCRIPT type=text/javascript> var fontIndex = 2; // var fontSize = new Array("0.63em", "0.69em", "0.75em", "0.88em", "1em", "1.13em"); var fontSize = new Array('0.63em', '0.69em', '0.75em', '0.88em', '1em', '1.13em'); </SCRIPT>
I refer to "Higher rents at five wet markets from next month" (Mar 24).
It is sad that Sheng Siong, the owner of these markets, has to raise the rents because it has to pay bank interest fees, property tax and maintenance fees after buying the five wet markets for about $25 million.
This would undoubtedly cause much pain and unhappiness to stallholders and customers who have to bear the burden of increased costs.
Can the authorities do something?
